Hon. Ralph Goodale on Quebec Mosque Attack

Message From Ralph Goodale, MP
Minister of Public Safety

Dear friends:

I am writing to a number of leaders in Saskatchewan’s Muslim community to express the concern and condolences of all Canadians at the horrific act of terror which struck people at prayer in the Islamic Centre in Sainte Foy, Quebec last Sunday night.

We grieve together for the lives lost in such a brutal manner, and we wish speedy and complete recoveries for all those who were wounded.

The pain of this senseless tragedy has spread across the country. Canadians are appalled by what happened. They’re standing shoulder-to-shoulder with you, and reflecting on the qualities and principles that hold us together as a country – which we must never take for granted.

Attached for your reference are remarks which Prime Minister Trudeau delivered in the House of Commons on Monday in tribute to the victims and in solidarity with Muslim Canadians everywhere.

Also attached is an article which I published last November during Saskatchewan Multicultural Week, shortly after several incidents of hateful vandalism in various communities across Canada. It touches on what it takes to preserve and strengthen our unity and cohesion.

If you have any questions or concerns about the current situation, or the position of the Government of Canada, please let me know. I would also be pleased to meet with you at any time.

Sincerely,

Ralph Goodale, MP
Minister of Public Safety
Canada
