  • NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED

    The IAOS has several Committees operating under it that assist with the various functions and objectives of the Association. It is with the hard work and help of the dedicated members of
    these committees that the IAOS can accomplish much of what it does to continue serving the Muslim community.

    The IAOS is currently in NEED of volunteers for several committees. These committees include:

    2. Maintenance Committee
    3. Sports Committee

     

    This is an excellent way to gain organizational experience, build your resume and most importantly, to become more involved in and give back to the Muslim community.     As Salam-o-Alaikum!

    The Annual General Body Meeting and Elections for 2022 will be held on Sunday, September 25th, 2022, at 2:00 PM online (Zoom)

    Only Members in Good Standing may attend, vote, and/or run for a position.

    That is members who have fully paid their membership and maintenance fees for 2021/2022 ($240 for individual; $480 for family – see below for details).
    DEADLINE FOR BEING “Member in Good Standing”:

    • Existing Members (Renewal): September 7, 2022.

    The following Five positions on the Board of Directors will need to be filled in the upcoming elections, the positions and their respective terms and the names of candidates are given below:

    MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING
    To participate in IAOS AGBM & Elections, one is required to be a “Member in Good Standing” . To be a “Member in Good Standing,” you must have met the following requirements:

    1. Pay monthly membership/maintenance fees for a full 2021/2022 year ($20/m= $240/y for individual or $40/m=$480/y for family) (or apply to have it waived; details on application form) by September 7th, for existing members renewing their membership.

    TOTAL ANNUAL FEES (membership/maintenance fees) = $240 for individual and $480 for a family

    (Family membership means husband and wife only for the purpose of voting – not children or extended family)

    AGBM Resolution Regarding IAOS Membership Fees

    On October 6, 2019, the Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) for the IAOS was held at the University of Regina. The members in good standing present at the AGM voted to make the following changes: 

    To change the monthly membership fee for members in good standing as follows:

    • For individual memberships, from $15/month to $20/month
    • For family memberships, from $30/month to $40/month.

    FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD MEMBERS

    President:

    • Act accordingly to the decisions of the Board
    • Supervise and execute all the activities and overall management of the Association according to the constitution.
    • Chair Board meetings and the Annual General Body meeting (AGBM)
    • Represent (or designate) the Board at all outside activities as required
    • One of the signatories on IAOS Bank Accounts
    • Present a report on behalf of the Board at the AGBM.
    • Should vote only to break a tie vote of the Board

    Treasurer:

    • Keep the books of accounts
    • Co-sign cheques with the President
    • Have financial report prepared 30 days prior to the end of Board’s term
    • Collect membership dues
    • Present audited financial report of preceding fiscal year of IAOS at AGBM
    • Fulfill any Government requirement with regard to IAOS finances
    • Meet any other requirements for financial report.
    • Present a yearly budget.
    • Report the financial position of the IAOS when requested.

    Secretary:

    • Keep minutes of all meetings
    • Prepare agendas for all meetings
    • Keep all the records
    • Handle all correspondence of the Association in consultation with the President
    • Maintain a register of the membership

    AGBM Resolution Regarding IAOS Board Applicants
    Sunday, June 11, 2006:
    “The Election Committee will determine the eligibility of the nominee for each position in the Board as per the constitution (Article XII, General Election, Section 2.6). In addition, a member who did not submit a C.V. by the last day of the month before elections … will not be eligible to be nominated for any position in the board. The C.V. shall include the person’s qualifications, experience, skills and plans on how to help in the position applied for. The C.V. will be posted on the message board in the mosque and will be circulated to the members of IAOS for their information. In the event that no candidate has submitted a CV for a given position by the deadline, that position will be open to nominees from the floor without a CV.”

  • Saturday Weekend School

    Assalam Alaikum,

    Dear Parents,

    It is our pleasure to inform you that the Saturday Weekend School registration for the school year 2022/2023 is now open until September 16. The school will be running in-person (3273 Montague St, Regina, SK S4S 1Z8 ) this year inshallah with smaller class sizes starting from October 1st until May 27, 2023. The school runs every Saturday 10:00 am-1:20 pm.

    The school provides:

     

    • Three classes every Saturday (one hour each)
    • Age of Admission: from 5 to 16 years of age
    • Islamic environment and education
    • Ethnically & culturally diverse
    • Low student/teacher ratio
    • Excellent quality of education
    • A sense of community

    The Subjects covered every Saturday are:

    • Qur’an Reading: Tajweed (rules of reading Qur’an), brief explanation and memorization
    • Islamic studies: Aqeedah and Tawheed (faith), Ibadaat (worship), Adaab and Akhlaq (manners), Seerah (biography) of the Prophet Mohammed (sala Allahu ‘alaihi wa sallam)
    • Arabic Language: Arabic reading, writing, speaking, and listening

    Alhamdulillah, complimentary parking has been arranged on campus at the University of Regina lots 6, 7 & 8. The capacity of these lots are approx 1500 parking spots.

  • IAOS New Masjid Fundraising Event

    Assalamu Alaikum
    We are excited to invite you & your families, on FRIDAY April 29th, for a night of spirituality & giving. This event sits on the 29th night of the holy month of Ramadan, and inshaAllah we will be doing Khatm Al Quran during Taraweeh Prayer. You do not want to miss this event!

    The location will be at former YMCA in the east of the city, which is a potential location for our New Masjid! Come and experience prayer at this potential new Masjid location.
