Zakat-al-Fitr

Zakat alFitr is a charity given to the poor at the end of the fasting in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The Arabic word Fitr means the same as Iftar, breaking a fast, and it comes from the same root word as Futoor which means breakfast. Zakat alFitr is a smaller levy than Zakat al-Mal.

It is equal to the price of one meal, which is estimated at $15 per person, given on behalf of every member of the family regardless of the age of the person.

Zakat is not just a fundamental pillar of Islam – it is also a revolutionary concept with the potential to ease the suffering of millions around the world.
